Energy Local The Guide - Part 7: The Club co-operative

To Part 6

To Energy Efficiency

Each separate Energy Local Club is a co-operative registered with the FCA. Once established, Clubs are run by the members on a voluntary basis. Member participation empowers the community and is vital to keep the Club operating.

The rules governing the running of the co-operative are set out in the Club Constitution.

Shares

Each Energy Local member holds a £1 share in their Club co-operative. Payments for shares are collected via electricity bills and are held in the Club bank account.

Shares are not withdrawable or transferrable, so a member leaving the Club will forfeit their share.

Running the Club

The Club is run by volunteers, led by an elected board of volunteer Directors.  The Directors agree the Club match price every year, hold an AGM and submit the company accounts.

All Club members can participate by attending and voting at the AGM. Members can also take on tasks to help run the Club, such as helping with communications, supporting other members, organising social events and encouraging energy awareness in the community.
