News on proposed 'P441' local energy market rule change!

The proposed P441 modification to electricity trading rules is now in the hands of Ofgem who have responsibility for the final decision.

We have now heard that Ofgem will likely run a consultation on the proposal over the summer, potentially in July.

You can read our Q&A here for more explanation of why this rule change matters to local energy.

It won’t put any additional obligations on licensed suppliers, but it will clarify the rules and in effect enable more local energy markets such as Energy Local Clubs, benefitting communities around the UK.

As long-term subscribers to the Energy Local newsletter will remember, this follows an extensive period of discussions and consultations by Elexon, which oversees the code.

We will be keeping an eye on developments and will let you know as soon as we know.

Thanks for your continued interest and support!

Norfolk cheese dairy hosts Energy Local training

Cows in a cow shed
The dairy's cows fuel an anaerobic digestion plant

This month our founder Mary travelled to Norfolk to train the volunteers of Energy Local Greenhoe. They’re developing a club connected to a cheese dairy’s anaerobic digestion plant.

Our club training brings together community members to explore how local renewable generation can directly benefit local people through the Energy Local model.

It was fantastic to spend time on-site, learn more about the project, and discuss the opportunities community energy can bring to farming, food production and local electricity use.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for the warm welcome and enthusiasm throughout the training (especially the cows!).
